Organised Mum Pick and Mix Personal Diary Insert 2013-Review

On Christmas Eve I was excited to receive in the post my Organised Mum Pick and Mix personal Diary Insert 2013. This is on sale now for £7.50 and is a new style that fits in the Personal size Filofax.

Organised Mum very kindly sent it to me to post a review on.

When I opened the package I was very pleased to find it didn't come in plastic wrapping, just wrapped in card.

I like this idea as there is less waste and it can easily be recycled.
On opening the package you see the Personal Information page.

This has the main contact details, but has space on the bottom half of the page should you need to add anything extra.
Next is a page of useful numbers, which again has space at the bottom for other numbers you may wish to add. I like at the bottom of this page the moon phases that are used in the diary. You then get an overview of 2013 and 2014.

We then go straight into the weekly diary. It is a week to view (or week on two pages, depending on your preference) which is set out in grid style. This consists of five rows for five family members or other topics. Across the top there are smaller boxes so you can write in the names or title for that row. On the right hand page across the top there is the small month calendar. Down the right hand side you can see it is split into Things to do and Next week.

I like the way this is set out. The boxes aren't too small, and the vertical lines aren't too dark, so if you didn't want to use the boxes you can write over them.

After the weekly diary there is a Dates to remember section. The first page has titles in already, such as house insurance and passport renewal. The second and third pages are blank so you can fill these in as you need to.

Next we go onto the monthly pages.

January starts on the right hand page, with a page for Things to do in January the page after, as shown below.

Ideally I would have like to have seen the months and their appropriate Things to do on the same page to view, not Things to do in January and February at a glance. However, it is still workable.

There is a special page after the August at a glance. A Back to school checklist.

A lot of Parents will appreciate this. I know I will. There is nothing more traumatic in the summer holidays than buying school uniform for the new school year. I usually make a page in my Filofax dedicated to this so I know what I have to buy and tag etc. This will be very handy.
Below is a close up of the page.

After the monthly pages there is a Vehicle Information section. There is room for four cars on this and you can fill in all the important details such as car insurance, MOT, make/ model etc.

Now comes the fun part

As not many people have seen the Pick & Mix inserts I decided to do a pen test to see how the paper faired. I used the following pens for this:
Pilot Hi-Tec-C Coleto 0.4mm
Sharpie pen 0.5mm
Muji Erasable 0.5mm
Frixion Multi pen 0.5mm
Parker Cartridge pen normal nib.

I wrote on a blank section of the front page with each pen.

Then I looked at the reverse side of the page to see if there was any bleed through or show through. I was very impressed or show through. I was very impressed with the results.

Then I erased where I had written 'Test' next to the erasable pens.

Once again, very impressive.

Conclusion

I am very impressed with the quality of the paper for writing on as its smooth, and also the lack of bleed through and show through. I love the grid layout. There is plenty of room to write in the boxes and the To do section is a good addition, and handy. I also love the Back to school checklist. This will be a godsend come the summer holidays.
It is also very well priced as you get the weekly diary and the monthly pages too.

I would definitely recommend this diary to anyone with a personal Filofax. The quality and content are amazing.

Other filofax compatible inserts available from Organised Mum include Personal Shopping and Menu Planning, Personal Finance and Budget, and Personal Family Schedules, Events and Occasions.

I would like to thank Organised Mum for sending me the Pick & Mix 2013 Diary to review. You can find out more information at www.organised-mum.co.uk

Bye bye Filofax, hello Midori

Hello everyone.
Today I am finally going to share with you my Midori Traveler's Notebook.

I decided to move away from Filofax about seven weeks ago after completely losing faith in both them and SlamPR. So I made a makeshift diary, and then finally ordered the midori.

I have now been using the midori for 4 weeks, and love it!!

So from now, this post will be picture heavy :)

I added a little butterfly charm to the page marker.

We have the inside cover, with Midori's sticky pockets. And a craft file on the right with the spotty sticky pockets.

Inside the craft file.

After the craft file I have the midori free diary. It's a week to view.

The free diary is very handy for starting at random times in the year as you write in your own dates and months.

At the back of the diary I have some sticky notes, then the green cover is the quadrille notebook with Muji sticky note on it.

Inside my notebook.

I use washi tape on the edges of the pages to make it look pretty. This is my password page.

Then I had a page for the Filofax meeting yesterday with train times and child care arrangements noted down, and also who was attending the meeting.

This is a rather random page. My phone hasn't been keeping its battery very long. So I've started taking note when I charge it, and how long it lasts.

This is the information page at the back of the quadrille notebook.

Then I have my photoaday list that I'm doing on Instagram.

Next comes my Christmas section.

I have pages for presents to buy people, to do, Christmas card list etc.

At the back of the quadrille notebook I have another sticky pocket for cards then there is a zipped/card pocket.

Then at the back there is some more sticky pockets.

So there is a tour of my midori.

Will I return to Filofax????
I may well do. The meeting was very positive yesterday I saw one at the Filofax shop that I love, but didn't buy :(. So if I can get a new one then I will.

COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCED

I would like to thank everyone for their entries to my competition to win the filofax Metropol. I had fun doing this and even more fun reading the entries.

I had a tough decision between two entries that required me in the end to bring in an independent judge.

So lets have a look at the photo again, to remind us what caption I was looking for as a winner.

The winning caption is.....................

"In solidarity with the company losing half it's profit, Gordon Presly stands stoically with half sleeves"

And the winner is Kristin Peters.

Congratulations Kristin, drop me an email and I will post your prize out to you!

Thank you everyone who took part, and entered the competition. Look out for another Filofax giveaway soon!!!

Filofax Competition time

********COMPETITION NOW CLOSED********

Earlier this year I took part in a Holiday Essentials Challenge run by Filofax. The idea was to make a mood board for three Filofaxes given by Filofax themselves.
Today I am holding a competition to win one of these Filofaxes, the Personal Metropol in Kingfisher Blue.

There was an article on here Scotsman.com that told of the troubles that Letts Filofax were facing. Attached to the article was the following photograph of the CEO of Letts Filofax, Gordon Presly.

To win the Personal Metropol in Kingfisher Blue all you have to do is the following.............................
I would like you to come up with a caption that best suits this picture.
The one I find the funniest will win.
The competition will close on November 20th 20.00 GMT, and the winner will be announced on November 22nd.
Terms and conditions.
# The judges decision is final.
# To enter you must follow my blog, comment below to say you do, then email me your caption.
# Email your entries to me at icclewu@hotmail.co.uk
# If the winner doesn't contact me by Nov 25th 20.00 GMT, another winner will be chosen.
# I do accept bribes (haha).
# The above term is a joke.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mini move

Hey everyone.

With all of the drama with Filofax and their "issues" I began to have planner fail.
I won't entirely blame Filofax, but I began to wonder whether I should continue to support a company that functions the way it does.

So I began to experiment.
To cut a long story short (which may well be a blogpost in the future) I have decided to downsize, to, wait for it.............................Mini.

**Gasp**

Yes I am moving to my baby Filofax the Mini Lyndhurst. This is my baby for two reasons. One it's a mini of course, and two, its the first Filofax I bought.

So I thought I would give you a quick tour of the set up. It's not very detailed as I've only moved over completely this morning.

So here he is.

I have decided to stick with my little to do post it's dashboard at the front as they are very handy.

I'm using week to view at the moment. I may purchase a German cotton cream ruled for 2013 if I stick with it. I'm using little dot stickers for colour coding as I can't fit my multi pen in there. It should also help to find when people are doing things as well.

There isn't really much happening behind the tabs at the minute. Just the usual stuff I have in other Filofaxes.

I have two clear pockets at the back for holding random bits etc.

Then I have my little red riding hood zipped holder that has also featured in other Filofax set ups of mine. I use this for money.

I'm keeping notes in the back of this for the time being. This may change, and they may end up in the front pocket. In the back pocket I have some stickers for colour coding, and vouchers. I'm also using my Filofax pen.

So there we have a quick tour of my mini set up.

:)
